A Regular First Appeal (RFA) is filed before the High Court against a final judgment, order, and decree passed by a Civil Court. It is governed by Section 96 of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 (CPC). This article explains the complete procedure.

What Judgments Can Be Challenged in an RFA?
- Final judgments and decrees passed by any Civil Court
- Orders specifically appealable under the CPC
Who Can File an RFA?
Any party aggrieved by the decree тАФ whether the plaintiff or the defendant тАФ can file a Regular First Appeal.
Limitation Period
An RFA must generally be filed within 90 days from the date of the decree. Delay must be explained by a Condonation of Delay application.

- Certified copy of the judgment and decree appealed against
- Memo of appeal stating the grounds of appeal
- Index of documents
- Court fee stamps
- Vakalatnama (if filed through an advocate)
Is an Advocate Necessary?
While it is legally possible to file an RFA in person (as a party-in-person), it is strongly recommended to engage a qualified advocate. High Court proceedings involve complex procedural requirements and legal arguments.
